Our own Frank Ivy told us about his trip to Chicago with his wife Allison, a fellow Rotarian. They visited both the Rotary Club of Chicago, known as Rotary One, and Rotary International’s headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. Before beginning his presentation, Frank presented President Sally with a flag for Rotary One and one from RI’s headquarters. The Rotary Club of Chicago meets at the Union League Club, which also houses a huge art collection. Frank showed us pictures of some of the club visitors, speakers and members and of his flag exchange. He also discussed how their meeting differs from ours. When they went to RI’s headquarters, they had a private tour (the other tour attendees did not show up). Frank took lots of pictures of the displays and statutes in the building. They also visited the reconstructed room where the first Rotary meeting took place. There is a display of all of the Arch Klump Society members, including District 5870 Rotarians Tim Buckley and Rich Kaye. Frank showed as a video he took of President Jennifer Jones’ office, the international board room, and all of the flags of the various countries where Rotary club are located. On their trip, Frank and Allison also saw a display in Chicago promoting Polio Plus and the Rotary One club. Chicago is bidding for the 2030 RI International Convention. What a wonderful trip!
