On March 3, we heard stories from the membership about their experiences in the storm of 2021, which had many different names – “SNOW-VID 2021,” SNOWMAGEDDON,” and “SNOWPOCALYPSE.” Ben and Nancy Carssow told us about hunkering down at their house with no water for 5-6 days and intermittent power for several days as well. They had friends come stay and other friends brought them water and food. Ben told of how he saw kids being towed by a truck down the street. Shirley told us about making snow ice cream as a child – it was important to get the snow before the dogs had been out! Instead of being stuck at home Lupe and Lucina spent several days making food for Austin Energy employees even though they had no power or water at the restaurant. They cooked around 1000 meals for a seven-day period. Hurray for the Barragans and Casa Chapala – showing what the Rotary spirit is all about!!
