NxNE RYLA students Emily Vasquez, age 16 and Zack Hertzog, age 18, reported on their similar experiences at the RYLA camp this month. They both spoke of once being shy, and “now able to get out of my shell of shyness.” By the end of the second day they had bonded with the cabin mates and the rest of the camp and felt the presence of real community. They were thankful for the space and the activities that gave them the room and encouragement to open their minds, discover their weaknesses and strengths, and to use those strengths for the benefit of the community. Experiencing an atmosphere of love, comfort, and acceptance, they were able to develop deep friendships and life-changing skills. Both expressed their gratitude to our club. They were very impressive youth and we all thank Rich Hill for being their guide.
