Jeanne Cox, a Rotarian from the Georgetown Rotary Club, spoke to us about their 6th Annual Field of Honor® project that is taking place this November 5-12. She showed us video clips from last year’s event. It’s a huge project that takes many volunteer hours from their club members. It is a gift to the community and central Texas and to our veterans. They have a license to hold this event. The event is meant to inspire patriotism, educate students, and promote peace and unity. Many non-Rotarians and community groups are involved in the project, which is highly publicized. So far, $179,500 has been donated to various veterans’ organizations. The funds are raised from the sale of flags. This year’s recipients will be Wilco Blue Star mothers, OP Veterans, and ROCK - Healing thru Horses. The event has many sponsors; biggest sponsor this year is SportsClip. Affiliates of the event can promote flag sales and receive a share from each sale - 6 Rotary clubs are affiliates this year. This year, the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 “NEVER FORGET” exhibit will be on display all week. There are many service opportunities to help assemble and set up flags and help with the event during the week. Jeanne’s daughter was the inspiration for her starting this project in Georgetown.
