We had two classification talks from Brigid and Kent Lester, who are both retired Army officers. Brigid grew up in California and has a senior in high school applied to West Point and was nominated and accepted. She was in the first class of women at West Point. It was a tough experience as recognized minority group, but also a very valuable one. She spent 20 years in Army and was the first female in many positions. Brigid told us about many of her Army experiences. She and Kent came to Texas after retiring from Army, and she went into the oil industry private sector. In 2016, she retired for good. She and Kent have five children. Her hobbies include watching college football and soccer (real football), and gardening. Her passion is social and racial injustice with a focus on clean air, water and food. She told us about her giving spirit and charitable endeavors, and she came to join Rotary. Kent is an only child and Army brat. He loves kids, sports and travel. Kent went to West Point as well and spent 20 years in the Army. He and Brigid met in Bosnia and connected when they worked in an orphanage there. After Army retirement they built a home in Cedar Park; their children are now spread all over the world. Kent taught high school after the Army at Belton HS. He also talked about Rotary and has volunteered to help with social media for our club. Both Brigid and Kent joined the Cedar Park Rotary Club in 2016 and are now transferring to our club. Please welcome them both!!
