Past-District Governor Jerry Chapman spoke to us about the Rotary Foundation. He told us how the right connections can lead to great Rotary stories and gave us some examples. There are 2200 members in our district making those connections work for them. We are all part of the family of Rotary, with different languages and cultures but all wanting to make a difference in the world. The Rotary Foundation is separate from RI and the Rotary clubs. Rotarians are the hands and feet and the Foundation provides the funds. Jerry explained how funds come back to District 5870 after three years and used as DAP grants in our district area. He gave us the following examples of how Foundation funds are used - Global grants $30,000 or more including scholarships, Biblio-bus in Madagascar, and a various water projects. The key is to remember that we as Rotarians have a say in how money is spent. He encouraged us to make the Foundation one of our top giving priorities as the Foundation has spent over $4 billion making a difference in the world with the agenda being to do good! Jerry ended the meeting by discussing District activities, including a camp for Ukrainian children the weekend of Labor Day that is being supported by a disaster grant from the Rotary Foundation.
